01

CONSTRUCTION AND PURPOSE

The stone breakwaters known as Los Brazos were built between 1988 and 1990 to protect the newly formed Playa Dorada beach from Atlantic swells. Their shape and positioning simulate a natural bay, allowing water circulation without large waves or strong currents.

03

SWIMMING CONDITIONS

The breakwaters provide exceptionally calm waters, making the beach ideal for families with children and older visitors. Playa Dorada also offers a gentle entry into the sea—something rare on Lanzarote, where many beaches are steep or have rocky shores.

05

CURRENT ACTIVITIES

Playa Dorada is well-maintained and offers a wide range of water activities. In addition to snorkeling, visitors can enjoy banana boat rides, jet skis, pedal boats, or inflatable “sofa” rides. A perfect spot for families, couples, or groups of friends.

02

ARTIFICIAL BEACH

Playa Dorada is an artificial beach created on a formerly rocky and inaccessible stretch of coastline. With imported golden sand and stabilization through breakwaters, it became one of the most popular recreational areas in Playa Blanca.

04

URBAN DEVELOPMENT

The construction of the breakwaters and Playa Dorada beach was part of a broader urban development plan in Playa Blanca during the late 1980s and early 1990s. This project played a key role in transforming the town into a modern tourist destination.
