01

URBAN BOUNDARY AND LOCATION

Sandos Papagayo marks the visual and physical end of Playa Blanca’s urban area. Beyond it lies the open landscape of Los Ajaches Natural Park. The hotel stands exactly where the paved road ends and the natural trail to the Papagayo beaches begins.

03

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE PROJECT

Given the nearby protected zone, the project underwent environmental assessments. Wind currents, light pollution, and the preservation of the dark horizon were considered. The building’s design was adapted to limit its impact on the surrounding ecosystem.

05

WATER MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY

The hotel features a rainwater capture system with collection from rooftops and terraces stored in underground tanks. This water is reused for irrigation and maintenance, helping reduce pressure on municipal supplies, especially during dry seasons.

02

TERRAIN ADAPTATION AND STABILISATION

Due to its proximity to cliffs, the terrain was modified with terraces and retaining walls. These structures prevent coastal erosion and enable rooms to be built on multiple levels, offering sea views while preserving the natural shape of the landscape.

04

ARCHITECTURE AND PANORAMIC VIEWS

The hotel has a wedge-shaped footprint that follows the coastline. Most rooms have views of the sea, Isla de Lobos, and northern Fuerteventura. The façade combines natural stone and white stucco, echoing the tones of the Los Ajaches massif.

06

TRAILS AND LANDSCAPE CONTINUITY

Access paths were designed to respect existing coastal trails to Papagayo. Remains of old routes to the former pumice extraction zone are still visible. That area, once industrial, is now fully regenerated and forms part of the protected natural park.
