01
ARCHITECTURE AND VISUAL DESIGN
The hotel consists of several staggered blocks forming interior courtyards and allowing sea views from every room. Thanks to its tiered layout, the building avoids a massive appearance and maintains an open, unobtrusive presence along the seafront promenade.
03
ECOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS
The rooftops are planted with drought-tolerant species that help regulate structural temperature. Rainwater is collected in underground tanks and reused for irrigation, adapting the building to Lanzarote’s dry climate with an emphasis on sustainability.
05
RESPONSE TO COMMUNITY AND REGULATION
The original design was revised following public criticism of its height and massing. The final version respects the local scale. It is the first hotel in the area built entirely in accordance with Yaiza’s updated municipal planning regulations.
02
MATERIALS AND CLIMATE
The façades use light-colored coatings that reflect sunlight and reduce heat absorption. The design combines natural ventilation, shaded areas, and conventional air conditioning to achieve a comfortable and energy-efficient indoor environment year-round.
04
PUBLIC SPACE AND ACCESSIBILITY
The ground floor includes public walkways, cafés, and shaded areas that seamlessly connect with the surroundings. Unlike other resorts, the building avoids perimeter walls or fences facing the street, preserving openness while ensuring privacy within the premises.
06
PARTICIPATION AND EDUCATION
Architecture students from the Canary Islands contributed to the design as part of a research programme on sustainable construction in arid climates. The project provided not only urban solutions but also meaningful educational and training opportunities.
